Applications Developer - Senior

Location: Pentagon

SUMMARY: Performs Oracle Database Administration tasks on Oracle Databases and has demonstrated expertise in below areas:

 

  • Installation of Oracle Database Software and Oracle Database creation.

  • Perform Backups and Restorations using Export/Import, Data Pump, RMAN.

  • Performs Patching and Upgrades on Oracle Databases.

  • Performs Performance Tuning.

  • Ability to write Shell Scripts, and analyze OEM Reports.

  • Ability to work with Customers on various projects along with a team of Engineers based on Onsite locations.

  • Ability to apply STIGs to the Oracle database.

  • Ability to configure encryption using Transparent Data Encryption (TDE).

  • Ability to administer Oracle databases on a Linux environment.

  • Organizational Skills: Can plan and prioritize work, both on their own and that of project team. Follows tasks to their logical conclusion and makes sure that everything has been done to the right standard. Good attention to detail.

  • Ability to document objective evidence of projects such as database installations, etc.

  • Technical Writing skills would be an added bonus.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

  • Installation, configuration and upgrading of Oracle server software and related products.

  • Apply Oracle quarterly Database Proactive Bundle Patches (DBBP) and OJVM patches to database servers and databases as they become available to maintain database security.

  • Deep understanding of Oracle Backup and Recovery.

  • Establish and maintain sound backup and recovery policies and procedures utilizing RMAN, Data Pump and evolving technologies.

  • Deep knowledge of various operating systems on which customers run Oracle.

  • Deep knowledge on Oracle database migration especially to encrypted tablespaces.

  • Technical Support for Oracle, including management of databases, listeners and other database components.

  • Perform ongoing database administration, maintenance, performance, installation, upgrades, backup and recovery of Oracle databases.

  • Oversee the completion of projects including planning; assigning, monitoring, reviewing progress, and evaluating results.

  • Ensure effective flow of communication between the DBA team, customers, and management.

  • Perform database tuning and performance monitoring utilizing AWR, Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control 13c, SQL Developer and TOAD.

  • Deep knowledge of Transparent Data Encryption (TDE).

  • Ability to take ownership of database issues and manage through resolution.

  • Setup and maintain documentation to conform to DoD standards.

  • Provide guidance and recommendations for capacity planning through sustainment and migration phases of projects.

  • Ability to consistently meet, exceed expectations and incorporate customer service into all aspects of work.

  • Ability to take ownership of database issues and manage through resolution.

  • Assist Developers with application/database setup and configuration.

  • Troubleshoot technical issues and provide documented guidance for resolution.

 

EDUCATION AND/ OR EXPERIENCE

 

Bachelors in Science (B. S.) in Computer Science, or equivalent technical experience or Master's degree (M. A.) or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • At least 6 years’ experience with database administration.

 

Clearance and Certification requirements:

Secret

Certification = Security+

IAT-II

 

Location & Telework:

This position location is limited to one of two sites.  The candidate can decide which site works for them personally.  The two sites are – Pentagon, or Joint Base Anacostia Bolling (JBAB). 

There is a requirement that the candidate MUST be able to work on-site two days per week.  This is to support the SIPR infrastructure and there may be a requirement that based on server/system availability that the candidate be on-site more often to support an outage.
